Learning about my lung condition took a big toll on my physical and mental health. Before my diagnosis, I did what most normal people would do - enjoy outdoor activities, sightseeing, going around malls, engaging in regular exercise, etc.
Because of the physical and mental side effects of my condition, I hardly get to do these activities anymore. Most of the time it was because of shortness of breath. But sometimes, I just don’t have the energy because I feel so down emotionally. What were once simple activities like walking a flight of stairs or even doing the laundry started feeling like an intense exercise routine.
Even things I really enjoyed like enjoying a walk in the park. Back then, I loved it because I got to bring my dog Bailey out for some fresh air. I get to see a lot of people enjoying nature, particularly parents having fun playing around with their kids. But a few months into my diagnosis, a short 15-20 walk already made me feel very tired.
Luckily I found out about a digital programme that changed my life forever, and this is the 7-day Herbal Tea Lung Detox Challenge. I found out about this programme from a Facebook friend who also suffered from a COPD. She told me to give it a try as the exercises are taught by a licensed respiratory therapist and that she herself has felt a huge
improvement in lung function and respiratory relief. I was skeptical at first but eventually gave in.
Within the first 4-5 weeks I already felt a huge difference. The chest and lung exercises taught in the programme are very easy to follow, even for someone like me who easily gets shortness of breath. Within a few more weeks, I started to enjoy things I used to love doing - starting with taking short walks in nearby parks.
One more thing I love from this programme is the support I get from the community. There are a lot of people who are going through the same thing and I felt so encouraged knowing that I am not alone in this journey.
The 7-day Herbal Tea Lung Detox Challenge greatly improved how I viewed my condition. I have never been more confident since the day I got diagnosed with COPD. Before, there were a lot of days wherein I just didn’t have the energy to be functional. With the lifestyle changes I made, plus the lessons taught in the programme, I am more energetic and hopeful for the future.
